In reply to

your letter of 31 ultimo enquiring whether His Excellency is to understand that the personal questions between Myself and Dr Wherry which I had raised had been dropped and the charges I had laid against him were definitely withdrawn,

I have the honor to reply that if in the future Dr Wherry is prepared to conform to the strict regulations of the Hospital which I have embodied in the files I referred to transmit to you for the approval of His Excellency in my letter of 31st July, there will not in the future be any personal questions between Dr Wherry and myself, whether the personal questions are dropped must depend therefore entirely on Dr Wherry's actions.

With reference to the charges I adduced against Dr Wherry as I understand from your letter of the 17th ultimo that His Excellency regards them as being too vague to form the basis of a definite decision by him, it is not my intention to proceed further with them unless Dr Wherry again gives me cause for complaint, but as they are in all respects true I cannot withdraw them.

I have the honor by desire of the Governor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter No 47 of the 2nd instant and in reply I am to state with reference to the last paragraph therein, that His Excellency does not think it would be quite fair to allow such charges as you officially laid against Dr Wherry to remain hanging over his head and at the same time be withdrawn.

I am to remind you that you have not produced evidence except your own statements in support of those charges.

As you decline to withdraw them His Excellency's suggestion is that you should produce the evidence on which you took the responsibility of making such charges.
